10. Subaru EJ20
The first engine in the EJ series was debuted in 1989 as a successor to the EA engine. The EJ20 is a 16-valve, flat four boxer and it's most well known for being at the heart of the Subaru Impreza.
9. Mitsubishi 4G63T
The two litre, turbocharged 4G6 series is probably the best known Mitsubishi engine ever produced. 4G63T or generally referred as 4G63 was introduced in 1988 with JDM Galant VR-4.
8. Mazda 13B-REW
The 13B-REW was the twin turbo version of 13B engine designed to power the third-generation RX-7 launched in late 1991. Each rotor on 13B-REW had a single combustion chamber volume of 654cc. With two rotors, the total displacement was 1308cc.

The 4A-GE, was introduced in May 1983. In a short period of time 4A-GE became very popular among import tuners with its reliability, high performance, light weight and compact design. It featured in classics such as the AE86 and AW11 MR2.
6. Nissan SR20DET
The SR20 first appeared in 89' in the Nissan Bluebird, however the SR20DET is generally known for its usage in Nissan Silvia and Nissan 180SX/200SX models. It's a robust 1998cc DOHC turbocharged engine with 16 valves and is popular in the drift scene
5. Honda B16B
The B16B was specially produced for JDM Civic EK9 Type R. The 1595cc engine featured Honda's legendary VTEC system and was capable of revving all the way up to 8900 RPM.
4. Honda K20A
The K20 is a four-cylinder four-stroke engine that was first released in 2001 in the Honda Stream. The JDM K20A used in the JDM Type-R has the peak power output of 225hp.
3. Toyota 3S-GTE
The bullet-proof 3S-GTE was Toyota's 2-litre 4 cylinder turbocharged performance engine used to power the Toyota Celica GT-4 and Toyota MR2 Turbo models between 1986 to 1999.
2. Nissan RB26DETT
The Rb26 first debuted on the R32 Nissan Skyline. The inline-six cast iron block was fitted with twin turbochargers and a DOHC head, with 4-valves per cylinder. The engine was capable of revving up to 8200RPM thanks to its over-square design.
1. Toyota 2JZ-GTE
The most powerful version of all JZ series, the 2JZ GTE is best known for powering MK IV Toyota Supra. However, it was originally built to homologate the Toyota Aristo for the Japanese Grand Touring Car Championship (JGTC).
